TORRINGTON — The Torrington Engineering Department announced Thursday that Franklin Drive would be closed to thru-traffic for just over two weeks later in the month.

According to a release from the city, the street will be closed from March 12 through March 26, and again from March 29 through March 30 “to facilitate the replacement of underground tanks located at 99 Franklin Drive.”

“It is the city of Torrington’s wish to keep our citizens informed of such road closures to alleviate any inconvenience associated with the detour,” said officials in the release. “Harwinton Avenue may be used as an alternate route.”

According to city property records, 100 Franklin Drive consists of 6.16 acres of vacant land owned by the Nidec America Corp.

Another 1-acre parcel of vacant land owned by the corporation is not listed as having a street address in city records.
