NCCC to host Comm-Con convention

WINSTED — The Student Senate of Northweste­rn Connecticu­t Community College will sponsor Northweste­rn CommCon, a cosplay, sci-fi and fantasy convention, from 4 to 8 p.m., on April 19 on the college’s campus in Winsted.

Northweste­rn Comm-Con will be free for students and staff to attend but must get advance tickets from the Student Activities Office. Tickets will be available on Sunday. Admission to the public is $5.

Activities are scheduled at two campus locations.

Founders Hall

⏩ 4-5 p.m.: Super Deafy http://thejmshow.com. Super Deafy will discuss what it was like to develop his own superhero and produce/make a movie.

⏩ 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Matt Parkinson from Dragons Breath Forge in Wolcott, who was the Season 1, Episode 1 winner of the History Channel’s Forged in Fire. He is a world-renowned bladesmith and will be giving a talk about what it is like to earn a living as a modern-day bladesmith.

⏩ 7-8 p.m.: Carl Johnson, a paranormal investigat­or who appeared on the first two seasons of the TV show Ghost Hunters. He will talk about what he does for a living.

Greenwoods Hall gym

⏩ 4-8 p.m., backdrop from Warner Theatre for photos, props/ costume;

⏩ Laurel City Fencing Society, giving free swordfight­ing lessons; vendors, video game stations, costume contest, caricature artists and raffles.
