WELLNESS FAIR: The Northwest Corner Prevention Network in partnership with Housatonic Valley Regional High School is sponsoring its second annual community Wellness Fair Friday, April 6, 1:30- 5:30 p.m. at the high school, 246 Warren Turnpike Road, Falls Village. TOVAH MARTIN TALK: The Minor Memorial Library will host a lecture and book signing by renowned garden author Tovah Martin on Saturday, April 7, at 2 p.m., to introduce her newest book “The Garden in Every Sense and Season”. NORFOLK FARMERS MARKET: The Norfolk Farmers Market has announced its winter dates for 2018. All markets will be held inside the Norfolk Town Hall, 29 Maple Ave., Norfolk, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Remaining dates are April 7 and April 21. MANUFACTURING EXHIBIT, TALK: The Cornwall Library is hosting programs to commemorate Connecticut’s manufacturing history. The exhibit, “Brazen Grit: Images of Brass Valley” with photographs by Emery (Ted) Roth, II and Lazlo Gyorsok, is on view through April . On Saturday, April 7 at 4 p.m., Ted Roth will give a talk and slideshow which elaborate on this legendary part of the state’s history and its culture. CHILI COOKOFF: The Roxbury Congregational Church, 24 Church St., will host its third annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, April 7, from 5-7:30 p.m. There will be a variety of different chilies for sampling, including vegetarian, all prepared by local restaurants and caterers as well as live entertainment by musician Don Lowe and raffles for gift certificates to local venues. After sampling, vote for your favorite chili, and have a bowl for dinner with salad, beverage, cornbread, and dessert. BEER HUNT: The Torrington Elks Lodge #372 will hold an Easter Beer Hunt on Saturday, April 7, 11 a.m.-3 p.m, first hunt at 12 p.m., at Elks Pond, 180 Guerdat Road, Torrington. PANCAKE BREAKFAST, COLLECTION DRIVE: Boy Scouts Troop 1027 in Winsted is holding its fifth annual pancake breakfast and raffle, Saturday, April 7, 8-11 a.m. at the St. Anthony’s Parish Center, 55 Oak Street, Winsted. The all-you-can-eat breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice; tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children under age 10. Take out is available. OPEN COURTHOUSE DAY: Open Courthouse Day, hosted by the Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust, will be held on Sunday,, April 8, 1-5 p.m. at the old county courthouse. Members of the trust will be there to welcome people, to guide them, and to answer questions. Also, visitors will be able to see conceptual plans for altering the interior and the rear of the building in order to repurpose the courthouse for the Litchfield town hall. MAD RIVER LIT FEST: Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s annual Mad River Literary Festival will be held on Tuesday, April 10, and Wednesday, April 11, on its campus in Winsted in Founders Hall Auditorium, starting at 6:30 p.m. The Festival also coincides with the publication of the annual Mad River Anthology, a journal of student writing in almost continual publication since the college’s founding in 1965. On Tuesday there will be a Community Reading emceed by NCCC Public Speaking students and featuring community members and students. The evening will be highlighted by readings by three NCCC faculty poets, Kateri Kosek, Jacqueline Welsh and Jim Kelleher. Poets Daniel Donaghy and Margo Schilpp will read on Wednesday, April 12. Readings on each night will be followed by a reception and book signing.
