MAD RIVER LIT FEST: Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s annual Mad River Literary Festival will be held on Tuesday, April 10, and Wednesday, April 11, on its campus in Winsted in Founders Hall Auditorium, starting at 6:30 p.m. The Festival also coincides with the publication of the annual Mad River Anthology, a journal of student writing in almost continual publication since the college’s founding in 1965. On Tuesday there will be a Community Reading emceed by NCCC Public Speaking students and featuring community members and students. The evening will be highlighted by readings by three NCCC faculty poets, Kateri Kosek, Jacqueline Welsh and Jim Kelleher. Poets Daniel Donaghy and Margo Schilpp will read on Wednesday, April 12. Readings on each night will be followed by a reception and book signing.

SCULPTING THE POEM: Sculpting the Poem with Sandra Bishop Ebner will be held April 10, 7 p.m .at the Oliver Wolcott Library, South Street, Litchfield. Ebner will provide a prompt that will facilitate that first step for the beginning writer, who may be intimidated by that blank piece of paper, which most writers are, but who will be able to chip away at that “block of marble” and create a finished poem. Zak’s Pool is designated for kids 10 and under. Uncle Aaron’s Tackle Shack & Tony Fillie will have a dozen rod and reels ready to be used for the derby including bait.
