RIVERTON FISHING DERBY: The much-anticipated Riverton Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, April 14 on the West Branch of the Farmington Riverton. Pancake breakfast, 4 ap.m. at Riverton Fire Department firehouse, is followed by the derby from 6-10 a.m. Bring catch back to the firehouse for weigh-in. Zak’s Pool is designated for kids 10 and under. Uncle Aaron’s Tackle Shack & Tony Fillie will have a dozen rod and reels ready to be used for the derby including bait. Grand prize is a Hitchcock Chair, other prizes provided. Stocking is Friday at 5 p.m. from the Riverton Bridge. GIANT TAG SALE: A giant tag sale will be held at the Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield in Pilgrim Hall, located on the Shrine grounds, 50 Montfort Rd., Rte. 118, Litchfield, Thursday, April 12 through Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 15, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Donations from sales help with the upkeep of the Shrine. FASHION SHOW: Altrusa International of Litchfield County will hold its annual fashion show on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m., at Chatterly’s Banquet Facility, 371 Pinewoods Rd., Torrington. MOURNING EXHIBIT OPENING: The Litchfield Historical Society announces its new exhibit, “To Weep with Those Who Weep: Mourning Practices in Litchfield,” on view from Saturday, April 14-Sunday, Nov. 25. The exhibit explores mourning practices of the 19th century, as they were affected by the death of George Washington in 1799.
