Gathering Place event benefits homeless outreach

TORRINGTON — “No Place Like Home”, a fundraiser to benefit Litchfield County’s, The Gathering Place, a homeless outreach center, will be held April 27 at the Elks Lodge, 70 Litchfield St., Torrington, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sponsored by New Beginnings of Northwest Hills Litchfield County, Inc. (Continuum of Care), the event includes an evening of live music by local musician Jeff Conlon, a silent auction, appetizers, and a cash bar.

“The Gathering Place is committed to housing the homeless by promoting hope and new beginnings. We are planning an exciting evening and encourage our supporters to attend. It’s a wonderful way to promote our work and to assist us in accomplishing our mission” said Nancy Cannavo, RN MSN, Manager of the Gathering Place and Psychiatric Nurse Clinician & Coordinator of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Outreach to the Homeless Program, in a written statement.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, and are available for purchase in Torrington during business hours at The Gathering Place, 21 Prospect St., Suite A; NWCT Chamber of Commerce, 333 Kennedy Drive; Torrington City Hall Mayor’s Office, 140 Main St. and at Salon Du Bois, Route 202 in Litchfield. New Beginnings of Northwest Hills Litchfield County (Continuum of Care) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission managing The Gathering Place – a daytime drop-in center serving local homeless individuals, families, youth and veterans.

“The Gathering Place provides local homeless people with the resources they need to live more productive and independent lives. It is a place to come to visit year round and to receive services to meet basic needs and resources such as showers, laundry service, clothing, legal services, mental health services, substance abuse services and supported employment,” organizers said in a statement.

The Gathering Place, serving Litchfield County, is located at 21 Prospect St., Suite A, Torrington. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The staff operating The Gathering Place are volunteers from other service providing agencies, who assist the homeless and their needs.
