DIABETES WORKSHOPS: People at risk for developing diabetes, have diabetes, or support or care for a person with diabetes, can learn the latest diabetes management techniques at a free 6week workshop beginning Thursday, April 19, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at Noble Horizons, Cobble Road, Salisbury. Certified diabetes instructor Anne Hummel, MS, RN, will discuss medication, meal planning, exercise routines, emergency treatment, blood sugar monitoring and interpretation and much more. Each class begins with a walk from 9:30-10 a.m. The workshop continues weekly on Thursdays through May 17, with a final class on Monday, May 21. COMM-CON CONVENTION: The Student Senate of Northwestern Connecticut Community College will sponsor Northwestern Comm-Con, a Cosplay, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Convention, on April 19, 4-8 p.m. on the college’s campus in Winsted. Thursday , April 19, the Northwestern Comm-Con takes place at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, April 19, 4-8 p.m. in both Greenwoods Hall Gymnasium and Founders Hall Auditorium. Events are free for students and staff and $5 for the general public. Participants in cosplay dress are encouraged to visit Greenwoods Hall, where a backdrop from the Warner Theater is available for photo opportunities, and the Laurel City Fencing Society will be demonstrating medieval combat techniques.
ROAST PORK DINNER: The Winsted United Methodist Church, 630 Main St.,will hold a roast pork dinner, April 19, 6 p.m. at the church.
