DAR SPRING TEA: The Torrington-Winsted Brooks-Green Woods Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a Spring Tea fundraisin­g event from 2 to 4 PM, on Saturday, April 28, 2-4 p.m. at Indian Meadow Estate, Knights of Columbus Hall, 122 Marshall St, Winsted. The event will feature Kevin Johnson from the CT State Library History and Genealogy Unit, with a presentati­on on Jordan Freedman. Tea, assorted finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and pastries will be offered. Silent auction items and a raffle basket will also be available. Tea hats and pearls are encouraged, if desired, but not required. Proceeds benefit community projects.

CONNECTICU­T BIRDS: Flanders Nature Center, Woodbury, will host a talk by Jane Seymour, a Connecticu­t DEEP wildlife biologist, on Connecticu­t birds and their migration habits, April 28 at 9 a.m. Weather permitting, a short walk of the Van Vleck property to identify varying bird species follows the talk. HOWS AND WHYS OF RESCUE: Little Guild, the Hows and Whys of Rescue, wiill be presented at the Scoville Memorial Library, Salisbury, April 28 at 11 a.m. Though their business is helping animals, Little Guild understand­s that animals are part of homes, families and communitie­s. SHRINE OPENS: The Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield, 50 Montfort Rd., Rte. 118, Litchfield, marks the beginning of its 60th Pilgrimage Season. Mass is celebrated Tuesday through Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the outside Grotto. In the event of inclement weather, Mass is celebrated in the Grotto Chapel located on the Shrine grounds. Also on the grounds are the Grotto Gift Shop and the Grotto Café.

WINE AND WEEP: In conjunctio­n with the newest exhibit “To Weep with Those Who Weep: Mourning Practices in Litchfield”, the Litchfield Historical Society wants to recognize objects excluded from the exhibit due to size and format, and reflect on their purpose and mourn their life in storage.
