WINSTED — Any curiosity the community may have about the new Joyner Health Science Center at Northwestern Connecticut Community College can be satisfied on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. when NCCC celebrates the innovative center with tours and demonstrations that highlight the building and the college, according to a press release.

“I’ve had a lot of inquiry from the community about the building,” said NCCC President Michael Rooke. “This event will provide opportunity for the community to view the new facilities and see the stateof-art equipment.”

The 24,000 square foot Joyner Health Science Center sits close to the Route 8 on-ramp and houses both the NCCC Veterinary Technology program on the first floor and the Allied Health programs on the second floor.

The former Joyner building, which originally housed a local supermarket, then the NCCC library, was torn down to provide ample parking space for the new facility.

In addition to the tours, the open house event will host special guests East Coast Assistance Dogs and Campion Ambulance, who will provide hands on demonstrations.

There will be additional interactive demonstrations on pet care and health topics by NCCC staff and faculty. FM 97.3 WZBG will be broadcasting live all morning and everyone who attends the event will be entered into a free drawing for a family night out, including a gift certificate from the Village Restaurant in Litchfield and four tickets to Torrington’s Warner Theater mainstage production of The Little Mermaid.

There will be further chances to enter drawings for additional prizes by attending different demonstrations; free giveaways and refreshments will be available also. College admissions staff will be on hand to answer any questions as well.

“This building was designed to provide students in both the veterinary technology and allied health fields the latest technology to prepare them for careers,” said Rooke. “The training labs, radiology and x-ray rooms provide opportunity for hands on, sophisticated learning. We are excited to share with the community what we can offer students at this facility and looking forward to a good turn-out at the event.”

This event is sponsored by the NCCC Foundation. For information, call 860738-6406.
