Conservative Family Institute supports Herbst
Tim Herbst, who came in second during last week’s Republican nominations for governor, on Wednesday won the endorsement of the conservative, anti-abortion Family Institute of Connecticut.
“Herbst will do more to defend faith, family and freedom in Connecticut than any other candidate running for our state’s highest office,” the organization announced. “That means Herbst will oppose assisted suicide, support parental notification for minors seeking abortions, and defend religious liberty.”
"I am the only Republican candidate building a broad coalition of support from across the ideological spectrum of our Party, in shared purpose, to defeat out-of-touch Malloy enabler Ned Lamont, upend business-as-usual in Hartford and restore prosperity to our state," Herbst said in a statement. "Democratic insiders in Hartford will no doubt attack this endorsement with hyperbole and vitriol, but Connecticut deserves a governor who seeks to unite all our residents behind a vision for prosperity and optimism in the future — not one that divides us against each other to score cheap political points.”
Herbst is gearing up for at least a three-way GOP primary on August 14. Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton won the convention endorsement and Steve Obsitnik of Westport won enough support to reach the primary. Two other candidates are in the process of possibly petitioning their ways onto the ballot.
