History Bites lecture set for May 31

LITCHFIELD — The popular History Bites Lecture Series is back! The Litchfield Historical Society invites you for their installmen­t of the series on Thursday, May 31, 12 p.m. The topic will be mourning customs, in conjunctio­n with the exhibit “To Weep with Those Who Weep: Mourning Practices in Litchfield.” Learn about the personal and social aspects of mourning practices in the 19th century and how Litchfield residents coped with loss through their words and artwork.

Each spring History Bites presents a series of weekly lunchtime programs designed to bring topics of local history to the attention of the regional community. This year’s lecture series theme, Community Treasures, highlights the stories preserved in the objects and histories contained in each institutio­n’s collection­s. The History Bites Lecture Series is sponsored by the Connecticu­t Community Foundation.
