Rentschler Field to host 2018 Tournament of Nations doubleheader

- By Jim Fuller

Rentschler Field will host a women’s soccer doubleheader on July 29 as part of the 2018 Tournament of Nations event. Japan will play Brazil at 4:15 p.m., followed by the United States vs. Australia at 7 p.m.

The game could be a homecoming for Seymour’s Alyssa Naeher. The goalkeeper has started five of the U.S. national team’s six matches in 2018, going 4-0-1 with two shutouts and an 0.60 goals against average. She also started 13 of the 16 matches in 2017. Naeher was on the roster when the U.S. defeated Colombia 7-0 on April 6, 2016 in East Hartford, but did not get into the match.

The No. 1 ranked U.S. squad will play for a World Cup berth when it plays host to the Concacaf Women’s Championship in October. Tickets for the July 29 doubleheader go on sale on June 1 at www.rentschlerfield.com or by calling (877) 522-8499, and can be purchased at the XL Center box office beginning on June 4. Tickets won’t be sold at Rentschler Field’s box office until the day of the two games.
