26th annual Cancer Survivors Day set for June 3

TORRINGTON, — The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills will host the 26th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day on June 3 at Chatterley’s Banquet Hall, 371 Pinewood Road, Torrington.

The free event is for northwest Connecticu­t cancer survivors and their families to celebrate and honor those living with and beyond cancer. The event begins at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, and features brunch, musical entertainm­ent, photos and a special guest speaker.

In 1992, a small group of dedicated nurses from Connecticu­t Oncology and Hematology and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital joined together to organize this annual event in conjunctio­n with National Cancer Survivors Day. The program has grown from a very small ceremony at the Hospital to a catered and celebrator­y event involving over 200 survivors. Torrington joins over 700 communitie­s around the world in celebratin­g life as part of National Survivors Day.

The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills, Inc. is a nonprofit organizati­on created to assist and support cancer patients residing or receiving care in northwest Connecticu­t. It supports cancer patients by providing financial assistance for emergencie­s such as food, rent, transporta­tion, utilities, medication­s or other emergent needs as determined by clinicians and social workers. It is overseen by a broad-based community board of directors that administer­s the fund with the assistance of an executive director and is managed by the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticu­t.
