NCCC commencement set for Thursday
WINSTED — Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s 52nd Commencement will be held on Thursday at the Warner Theatre, 68 Main Street, Torrington, at 6:30 p.m.
The commencement address will be delivered by Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, associate professor of legal studies at Quinnipiac University and director of the Global Engagement Fellows Program. Sujata teaches courses in constitutional law, public international law and human rights law, among other subjects, and serves as the faculty adviser for the mock trial team. She has organized seminars on human rights, development and community action, held at the United Nations, and has taken students to Oxford University for seminars on humanitarian ethics.
She received her bachelor’s degree in government from Cornell University and her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Sujata is a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar, a board member with the Oxford Consortium for Human Rights, and a Carnegie New Leader with the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. Prior to coming to Quinnipiac, she engaged with pedagogical issues as the director of a nonprofit legal education organization and worked as a litigation associate with two major law firms. She is interested in understanding how different voices and currents came to shape constitutional discourse and conceptions of justice in both the Indian and United States Constitutions.
