Barkhamste­d joins CT Trails Day

BARKHAMSTE­D — As part of the 2018 Connecticu­t Trails Weekend, state Rep. Bill Simanski (R-62) urges residents to join him, the Friends of American Legion and Peoples State Forests and the Barkhamste­d Historical Society for a 3 mile educationa­l walk. The hike will take place on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The meeting place will be the Nature Museum off Greenwood Road in Peoples State Forest, about 1 mile north of Pleasant Valley on East River Road. The event is free and open to the public.

45th annual Gallery on the Green June 9

LITCHFIELD — For the 45th year, The Junior Women’s Club of Litchfield Hills will host Gallery on the Green Art and Crafts Show on “race weekend” in historic Litchfield, SAturday, June 9, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

The combinatio­n of the Gallery on the Green and the world famous Litchfield Hills Road Race, which attracts many of the best runners in the world, has made the second weekend of June truly an event weekend! This weekend is just one of the many reasons that Litchfield is the one of the most visited towns in the State of Connecticu­t. All proceeds from Gallery on the Green go to local charities and families in need.

Wisdom House holding women’s retreat

LITCHFIELD — “Practicing These Principles: A Retreat for Women in AA and ALANON” will be presented at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center on Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 3. Shane Phelan, CMA will present the weekend.

Participan­ts in the program will gain a better understand­ing of the 12th Step and how these “principles” may expand their possibilit­ies in their lives. During the retreat there will be meeting time and time for silent reflection and journaling as well as private conversati­on with the presenter.

Shane Phelan, CMA is Co-founder of the Companions of Mary the Apostle, a new ecumenical religious community. She has been involved in recovery work for 30 years. A former professor of political science and women studies, she is an Episcopal priest, retreat leader, and spiritual director, with particular focus on recovery work.

Colebrook holding annual chicken BBQ

COLEBROOK — The annual Chicken BBQ dinner is being held at the Colebrook Senior and Community Center in the center of historic Colebrook on Saturday, June 23, 5-7 p.m. 5 Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for children, and may be reserved by calling 860-738-9521. Dine in or takeout meals include a half of a BBQ chicken, baked potato, homemade coleslaw, fresh baked roll, watermelon slice and a beverage.

The Kenn Morr Band will be performing at a free concert outdoors during the BBQ. Bring a chair, get your dinner to go and eat while you enjoy the music.

Library hosting photograph­er June 26

NEW HARTFORD — Photograph­er Paul Cryan, Hartford Magazine’s #1 photograph­er, will be at the Beekley library to take your child’s photograph on June 26. All proceeds will be donated to the library.

Each child will be given one fiveminute appointmen­t. Cryan will take about 30 shots of each child, and his staff will select the three best shots and make up a 5 x 7 photo of each one.

Parents may buy the package of three photos for $68, package of two photos for $60, or individual photos for $30 each.

A digital package of three images in high definition is available on disc for $100.00, or you may have the disc and three photos for $135. Families will also be able to order extra copies in different sizes: 11x14, $56; 8x10, $42.00; 5x7, $30; 8 wallets, $32; 16 wallets, $49.

Specifics: Photos will be black & white. Children must be at least 6 months old and no older than 21. No group shots, only individual portraits. The library has a sign-up sheet. Flanders to hold annual 5K run

WOODBURY — Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust will hold the fourth annual “Field & Forest” 5 K trail run on Friday, June 8, 6 p.m. at the Flanders Van Vleck sanctuary.

All ages and skill levels of runners, joggers and walkers are welcome to register for the 3.1 mile run/ walk through the trails and rolling hills of the nature center. After the race participan­ts will enjoy a celebratio­n with food trucks and stations which include La Tavola pizza truck, pulled pork sliders from Bantam’s Wood’s Pit BBQ, a burger station, the Comfort Zone truck which offers an array of specialty toppings on pretzels, and beer from Woodbury Brewing Company. Live music will be provided by the popular local rock band, Root Six.

A registrati­on fee of $35 for 13 years or older includes the run or walk, two food truck items and for those over age 21, a compliment­ary craft beer. This fee goes up to $40 between June 1 and June 7 and to $45 on race day.

For younger walkers and runners age 12 and under, the fee is $30 through June 7 or $35 the day of the race which also includes the vouchers for food items. Online fees are extra. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase by spectators and participan­ts.

Awards will be given to top male and female finishers overall as well as in 8 age categories ranging from age under 10 to over 60.

The race will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and will be held rain or shine; however, Flanders reserves the right to cancel in the case of lightening. The event cannot accommodat­e strollers or pets on the course.
