Phoenix Theater Co. chosen for festival
OAKVILLE — The American Association of Community Theatre recently announced that Phoenix Stage Company of Oakville has been selected to participate in AACT NewPlayFest as a Producing Theatre, according to a press release.
Keeping in line with the AACT mission of providing support and resources to community theatres, AACT NewPlayFest addresses the critical need for new, high-quality plays for community theatre audiences around the globe.
With AACT NewPlayFest, the winning playwrights see their plays produced by an established theatre and published by Dramatic Publishing Company in an anthology. Phoenix Stage Company is one of only six theatres in the nation recently selected to receive this honor. As a Producing Theatre, Phoenix Stage Company will choose the play to produce from the final selected scripts. Playwrights have submitted their original scripts, and selected reviewers are currently choosing the finalists.
Phoenix Stage Company was founded in 2010, and since has produced over 70 full stage productions. Phoenix Stage Company recently moved into a new 152-seat performance space. It promotes new plays by new playwrights with its New Works Project and a One Act Festival featuring original short plays as part of its annual season. In 2014, Phoenix Stage Company produced the world premiere of Jellofish by Jim Henry as a part of the AACT NewPlayFest. Phoenix Stage Company is located at 133 Main Street in Oakville, Connecticut.
