Clay & Wattles reveal summer shows, actors

-

BETHLEHEM — Performers for the 2018 Clay & Wattles Theater Company’s summer season hail from across the U.S. and abroad.

Heather O’Sullivan, playing the featured role of Rosemary Muldoon in the Clay & Wattles’ production of “Outside Mullingar” is from Galway, Ireland. She studied Theater at Trinity College, Dublin and at the University of California, San Diego. “Outside Mullingar” opens with a gala on June 15, and continues through June 24 at The Gary The Olivia Theater in Bethlehem. This is her debut with the company.

Regionally, O’Sullivan has performed at the La Jolla Playhouse, The Arthur Wagner Theatre and internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Samuel Beckett Theatre in Dublin, Ireland among others. She currently resides in New York City.

Her character, Rosemary Muldoon, is the daughter of farmer Chris Muldoon and mother Aoife (E-fah) Muldoon. Hardworking, strong willed, stubborn, bright, witty and determined, Rosemary has taken on many of the responsibilities of the farm after her father’s passing. The unfolding of her relationship with neighboring farmer Anthony Reilly, her contemporary and son of farmer Tony Reilly, is funny, poignant and revelatory!

New York City-based actor Clayton Howe will play the role of Anthony Reilly in “Outside Mullingar.”

Regionally, Howe has performed at the Ogunquit Playhouse, Fingerlakes Musical Theatre Festival, Broadhollow Theatre, Marvel Theatre, Barlett Theatre and internationally as a performer on the Disney Cruise Lines. Featured roles have included Kenickie in Grease, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls and King Duncan in Macbeth. He studied theatre at Suny Fredonia, Stella Adler School of Acting and at Circle in the Square. * This will be Clayton’s debut performance with Clay & Wattles Theater Company.

Set in rural Ireland in 2008 “Outside Mullingar” tells the oft times comical yet deeply moving story of two farming families at a emotional and existential crossroads. Tensions between the generations and a possible romance between Anthony Reilly and Rosemary Muldoon provides the drama.

Tickets are now available online at thegarytheolivia.com (with senior and group discounts offered) or at the box office, immediately in front of the theater, open 1 hour before show time.

“Outside Mullingar” will be performed Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

The next show is “Afternoon Cabaret” on Sunday, July 15 at 2:30 pm. Meet the cast of Bock & Harnick’s “She Loves Me” and performers from past Clay & Wattles’ productions. The audience will be “wowed” by the quality of talent from around the U.S. as they perform songs and dance from Broadway and the American Song Book. The theme is “connection” and performers will explore the myriad of ways we human beings connect. A wine and cheese reception precedes the show at 2 p.m., and a meet and greet with the performers follows the peformance.

“She Loves Me” opens July 28 with a gala and wine and cheese reception at intermission, with shows continuing through Aug. 12, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Nominated for five Tony Awards in 1964, the 1993 Broadway revival won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical and the 1994 Critics Circle Award for Best Musical.
