Lime Rock Park will fundraise for Michael J. Fox Foundation
LAKEVILLE — The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research has been selected as Lime Rock Park’s official charity for this year's season, announced Lime Rock Park President Skip Barber.
“Each year, Lime Rock Park selects an official charity to support throughout the year and we’re pleased to select The Michael J. Fox Foundation as this year’s benefactor,” Barber said. “This charity is especially near and dear to our hearts, as our good friend and former race car driver Sam Posey has Parkinson’s. Sam has been a champion, not only on the track, but as an advocate for finding a cure for the disease. Through our fundraising efforts this year, we hope to have an impact on the lives of all of those who urgently need a cure, including Sam.”
As part of the Park’s yearlong fundraising efforts, all proceeds from the Sunday Royals Car Show, May 27 in conjunction with the Royals Garage of Torrington have been donated to the Foundation’s grassroots fundraising community, Team Fox, where 100 percent of
donations will go directly to fueling critical Parkinson’s research.
Lime Rock Park is also raising money via the Foundation's website. Anyone who would like to donate or participate in raising money can learn more by visiting limerock.com/officialcharity.
Foundation awards college scholarships
WATERBURY— College will be more affordable for 420 students in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills thanks to scholarships awarded by Connecticut Community Foundation for the 2018-19 academic year. The awards total more than $900,000 and are for students attending two-year and fouryear schools across the country.
Later this year, students at Naugatuck Valley Community College and Central Connecticut State University will also receive scholarships from the Foundation; those institutions will determine and direct those scholarships to worthy students, many of whom are “non-traditional” — at different stages of life and careers.
For decades, donors have worked with the foundation to establish 130 college scholarship funds to benefit area students. Among the largest scholarship providers in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills, the Foundation has awarded nearly 6,000 awards from these funds — totaling $10.4 million — to area students over the past 20 years.
