City receives grant for greenway trail

-

WINSTED — Town of Winchester and the City of Torrington received a grant to complete the Sue Grossman Greenway Trail’s northern section, starting at the northern terminus of the existing trail and continuing northward to the playground at the ballfields on Rowley Street.

This trail, once complete, will be like the one already constructed, approximately 10 feet wide (or narrower in spots) and paved. Its path continues to follow the old railroad bed until it reaches the Town Highway Garage, where it will then travel along that easterly side of Rowley Street up to the playground.

Members will hold an informative session on the project on July 18 at 5 p.m., and a separate public hearing for the wetland impacts of the project on the same date at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

A public hearing for the needed Planning and Zoning approvals is scheduled for July 23, 7 p.m. in the Hicks Room at the Winsted Town Hall. Guests can enter through the side police entrance and take the elevator if the other doors are locked.

The informative session will be an informal chance for residents to learn more about the project from our engineers and ask questions. The public hearings are a time to testify or submit written testimony on the project to the respective land use commissions. Under the Planning and Development page on the Town’s Website, residents will find the plans and documents for this project if they wish to review them; they are also available for review in the Planning Office at Town Hall. steps.
