I have always believed positive beats negative every time, and nothing is impossible if it is morally, ethically and legally correct.

Brian Tracy in his book, “The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success,” writes about “The Law of Optimism.” It’s encouraging and worth noting:

“Optimists are ‘can do’ people.”

“Optimists seek the valuable lesson in every setback or disappointment.”

“Optimists focus on the future rather than the past.”

“Optimists are solution oriented rather than problem oriented.”

For us at the chamber, every initiative that we plan addresses a need or challenge that exists within the region.

It might be the Workforce Investment Board and the resources available to employers in filling their job openings.

Of course, it’s the Young Professionals Organization working to retain and attract young people to this corner of the state and their first 40 Under 40 event on July 26.

It might be Leadership Northwest continuing to prepare our future leaders or Junior Leadership NW resuming in September at THS to promote a community-based educational opportunity for high school sophomores and juniors.

Perhaps it’s the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Corp. bringing the private and public sector together to create more jobs and to work on the recently completed Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

It may well be SCORE assisting small business and supporting the Northwest Connecticut Entrepreneurial Center at Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

Surely, it’s the School to Career Pathways, working tirelessly to bring students, educators and business leaders to the table to talk about preparing our future workers.

It could be the 2018 Business Survey of Northwest Connecticut, where results will be used as a tool for addressing the issues.

Can’t forget the Legislative Roundtable discussions beginning after the primaries to introduce you to the candidates.

Must also remember the many networking events that promote business —check our website for the calendar of events.

Together, we can do it! My kind of thinking! I like the law of optimism.
