Gallery to host lecture on the artistic process
TORRINGTON — Laurie Simmons, photographer, filmmaker, and feminist will speak in Five Points Gallery on July 14, at 7 p.m. Simmons will discuss her work and artistic process in the contemporary world of photography according to a news release from organizers.
The talk, which is part of Five Points’ Lecture Series, is free and open to the public and will be held in the gallery at 33 Main St., Torrington. Seating is limited. Those interested in attending the lecture are encouraged to pre-register for free admission, on the gallery website (fivepointsgallery.org).
The lecture will be preceded by a 6 pm meet and greet reception. Tickets for the reception are $50 single and $75 couple and include reserved seats at the lecture. Tickets for the reception may be purchased via the gallery website, www.fivepointsgallery.org.
Simmons has had solo exhibitions at MoMA PS1, Long Island City; Artists Space, New York; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Baltimore Museum of Art; San Jose Museum of Art; Gothenburg Museum of Art, Sweden; Neues Museum, Nuremberg, Germany; The Jewish Museum, New York; and Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis.
Her work has been featured at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Fotomuseum Winterthur, Zurich; New Museum, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and many others.
In October, Simmons will have a retrospective originating at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and traveling to Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
Her feature film, “My Art,” premiered at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival and had a North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
