Main Street Marketplace begins tonight
TORRINGTON — Main Street Marketplace opens tonight in Torrington, with many changes since the event was first introduced to the public in 2011.
“We’re all very excited for opening night and the weather looks fabulous,” said organizer Kris Roberts, owner of the Roberts Tax Group and a member of Main Street Torrington Inc. “We’re happy to have moved the event to Wednesday nights to allow for Thursday rain dates, should it be needed.”
Each week’s Marketplace will feature a different theme, starting with tonight’s military fly-over. Roberts said there are plenty of shopping opportunities, and food will also be available for sale.
“We have about 100 vendors throughout the season,” Roberts said. “Some are new and some are longtime favorites.”
Roberts and her group are still looking for volunteers to help with the event. Anyone who is interested can email her at info@mainstreetmarketplace.org.
It will be held this year on Wednesdays instead of Thursday nights, based on the weather.
“This allows us to keep Thursdays available for rain dates, something MSMP never was able to accommodate in the past,” Roberts said. “We had to cancel one night in 2017. And it was a logistical nightmare trying to fit everyone in to the remaining nights.”
Moving it to Wednesdays also allows for those who generally work late on Thursdays to attend, she said.
Main Street Marketplace continues on Wednesdays, July 18, 25 and Aug. 1.
