ANNUAL MEETING: Join the Friends of the Beardsley & Memorial Library, Winsted, for its annual meeting and guest Vesper Stamper, author and illustrato­r who will lead a discussion of her new novel. The Friends will host their annual meeting July 21 at 10:30 a.m.; Stamper’s talk will follow at 11 a.m. Light refreshmen­ts follow both events.

OPEN HOUSE: Papermoon Dance & Performing Arts will hold an open house at its new studio on 49 Commons Drive (the same building as 97.3 WZBG), in Litchfield, July 21, 1-4 p.m. The event is open to the public. Guests can meet Papermoon’s staff of dance instructor­s, including studio director and Thomaston resident Danielle Eichman, learn about the dance programs the studio has to offer, and sign up for August Dance Camps and enroll for the 2018-19 dance season beginning in September.

HISTORY HIKE: Residents are invited to meet at Squire’s Tavern,100 East River Rd. July 21 at 2 p.m., and join Paul Hart for a short hike where he will explain how the scenery has changed over time, with about a dozen stops along the trail where he will describe the way the area would have looked in the 1800s. Wear comfortabl­e shoes for the walk and dress appropriat­ely. The hike is about 1 mile long and should last about an hour and a half. Some of the terrain is on uneven ground. LITCHFIELD SENIOR PICNIC: The annual Senior Picnic sponsored by Litchfield Parks and Recreation Department is set for noon on Thursday, August 2, 12 p.m. at the Litchfield Community Center, with food, fun, games and music provided by Entertainm­ent by Kevin. Admission to the picnic/dance is $10 per person, which includes hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, salads, watermelon, and soft drinks.
