Roxbury Jazz Festival debuts on Saturday

ROXBURY — The Roxbury Recreation Commission, along with TransMedia Creative presents the Roxbury Connecticut Jazz Festival on Saturday. The festival will showcase a lineup of local and regional Connecticut jazz artists, according to a news release from organizers.

People of all ages are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and coolers to enjoy a day of music and old-fashioned summer fun at Roxbury’s Munson Meadow. Along with the concerts, there will be a cocktail party and prix fixe boxed lunches sold by the Roxbury Market. A portion of the concert’s proceeds will be donated to Roxbury’s Apple Lane Development Fund, which helps to improve and maintain Hurlburt Park.

Brainchild of local residents Doug White, Marc Wager and Wayne Ferris, the festival will take place rain or shine (a large tent covers the concert area); and, along with showcasing the music, will provide an arena for local artisans and vendors to sell their wares. Free admission for children 12 and under. Activities for children include adultsupervised bounce houses.

Admission to the VIP cocktail party (sponsors will not be charged) will be $30, which provides free drinks from 1 to 4 p.m. After 4 p.m. the cocktail party will change to a cash bar. Gates open at 1 p.m. Music starts at 3. Wrist bands will be given to attendees so people can come and go during the duration of the concert.

The performers appearing at the concert are: The Hot Club of Black Rock, Medusa, with Jocelyn Pleasant and Corey Hutchins, Kathy Thompson Band, Marc Wager and the Roxtones and the Doug White Quintet. Music begins at 3 p.m., with the headline band, the Doug White Quintet, starting at 8.
