Back to School cloth­ing, sup­ply event date set

The Torrington Po­lice Ac­tiv­i­ties League (PAL) in partnership with area or­ga­ni­za­tions will be hold­ing the 11th an­nual North­west Con­necti­cut Ju­nior Dress for Suc­cess Free Back to School Cloth­ing/School Sup­ply & Com­mu­nity Re­source In­for­ma­tional Fair on Satur­day, Aug. 11, (rain or shine), 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Torrington Ar­mory and Coe Me­mo­rial Park on South Main Street.

This event al­lows over 400 area fam­i­lies to “shop” through do­nated items to help their fam­i­lies start the school year with cloth­ing and school sup­plies. Back to School sup­ply shop­ping costs the av­er­age Amer­i­can fam­ily over $683 per child be­tween school clothes and sup­plies, ac­cord­ing to Amer­i­can Ex­press. Do­na­tions may be brought to Doyle's Med­i­cal Sup­ply, 25 Coe Place, Torrington, or to the Torrington Ar­mory on Friday, Au­gust 10, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Pick ups can be ar­ranged by call­ing Baraco at 860482-5682. Torrington Pub­lic Schools will also have a ta­ble in front of City Hall at Main Street Mar­ket­place on Wed­nes­day evenings weather per­mit­ting.

In con­junc­tion with the Ju­nior Dress for Suc­cess com­po­nent, fam­i­lies can visit Coe Park to meet with var­i­ous com­mu­nity ser­vice providers in­clud­ing rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the Torrington Pub­lic Schools, while en­joy­ing free food and en­ter­tain­ment for their kids.
