SUMMER BAKE SALES: The Four Corners Circle at the First Congregational Church of Torrington, Riverside Avenue and Route 4, will be holding bake sales this summer, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25. NORFOLK FARMERS MARKET: The Norfolk Farmers Market will be held on Saturdays through October, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 19 Maple Avenue. On July 7 and continuing every other week through September, Tracy Hayhurst will be “cooking the market” to inspire your own farm to table meals, and will demonstrate how to create simple, healthy and delicious recipes using seasonal foods from local farms. DETECTIVE FICTION: A Random Stroll through Detective Fiction, Continued, at the Cornwall Library, will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 11. This is the second half of Jim Fishman's earlier talk on detective fiction. He will offer vignettes of the leading writers, a surprising number of whom used pseudonyms despite, or perhaps because of, being distinguished in other fields. Every writer he’ll mention is represented in the Cornwall Library’s excellent collection. He will also recommend some authors and detective novels that may be unfamiliar.
