Cartoberfest set for Oct. 7
NEW HARTFORD — Thirteen years ago, Mike O’Brien of Time Was Garage approached the New Hartford Volunteer Fire & Rescue about holding a car show to raise money for the department. From that encounter, Cartoberfest was born. It has become an annual event on the first Sunday in October, or the first sunny Sunday. This year’s car show will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hurley Park, 37 Greenwoods Road, along the Farmington River off Route 44.
The event is run completely by fire department members and garge volunteers. It is also the largest fundraiser for the department, drawing 400 to 500 participants and hundreds of spectators each year. All proceeds support the fire department.
The fundraising nature of Cartoberfest brings in cars from across Connecticut and beyond. Since it is a non-judged event, it has become a relaxed showcase and social event for both the participants and the spectators. Visitors see anything from hot rods, custom cars, classic cars, antique cars, motorcycles, and trucks. Thanks to Time Was Garage, the show draws from a huge community of car enthusiasts.
.Along with the entrance donations for participants and spectators, numerous local businesses also support the event with monetary contributions and a wide array of raffle prizes.
There will be dash plaques, door prizes including NASCAR tickets to Dover, Charlotte and New Hampshire races and theatre tickets for Bridge Street Live!, the Warner Theater, Infinity Hall, and various gift certificates from local businesses such as the Saybrook Fish House and Georges/Olive Bar and beyond.
Food will be available for purchase as well as live entertainment by the Whiskey Rebels will be on stage. All ladies receive a rose.
