Among the Acres performs at Butler-McCook Garden
HARTFORD — Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy folk rock quartet Among the Acres on Thursday, Sept. 13, in the ButlerMcCook Garden, 396 Main St., Hartford. The Hartfordbased group fuses an eclectic range of influences into a sound defined by cascading vocal harmonies, intricate string melodies and an insatiable desire for “groove.” The Sunset Sounds Concert Series concludes in September, and takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the Richard P. Garmany Fund Music & Education Terrace at the Amos Bull House. Free tours of the first floor of the Butler-McCook House will be offered at 5:30 p.m.; donations welcome.
Step inside the Amos Bull House and Butler-McCook Aetna Gallery and view John Hsu’s Images in Water exhibition, which celebrates water reflection composition. The slow movement of the water surface echoes the stroke of a painter’s brush, and with the help of digital editing, these photographs take on the appearance of paintings. Hsu’s use of water reflection unites vast sky and cloud images that easily come together to form a complete composition. The exhibition will be open to the public during regular museum hours from Friday, Sept. 14 through Sunday, Oct. 7.
Among the Acres delivers powerful live performances, marked by a dynamic spectrum of style, emotion and sound. As the name might suggest, the band’s songs evoke an atmosphere reminiscent of the range of feelings experienced while in the great outdoors— the serenity, clarity, and simplicity, juxtaposed with the volatility, immensity and mystery of nature. Their writing strives to balance raw personal testimony with the universal human experience, interweaving heady themes with catchy melodic ideas.
All concerts are free and open to the community.
