Diabetes workshop
TORRINGTON — The public is invited to attend a free, interactive six-week Live Well with Diabetes Workshop to learn new skills to help take charge of diabetes. The Live Well with Diabetes workshop will be offered at the Sullivan Senior Center, 88 East Albert Street in Torrington on Tuesdays, Oct. 16 – Nov. 20, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Participants with Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes will learn how to control blood sugars including healthy eating, being active, blood sugar goals, how to treat low blood sugar, taking medications, communicating with your health care provider, basic foot care, and sick day guidelines. You make action plans, learn how to problem solve and more. Live Well with Diabetes Workshops are also beneficial for caregivers, family, and friends of those with diabetes. Staff from the Torrington Area Health District will facilitate the workshop.
Live Well is sponsored by the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, State of Connecticut Unit on Aging and Connecticut Department of Public Health through grants from the Administration on Aging and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Generous support is also provided by a grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation. The program is an evidence based self-management program developed at Stanford University.
