The WOW! factor

- JOANN RYAN

WOW! It is only 12 days away! The 14th Annual WOW! Forum, Women of Strength and Courage is Friday, Oct. 5 at The Warner Theatre’s Carole & Ray Neag Performing Arts Center from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

I thought it most appropriate to share some thoughts from the book The WOW Factor written by Frances Cole Jones.

You would think that we developed the WOW initiative based on the suggestions outlined in the book:

Transform the habits that dull your edge like teaching yourself resilience.

Accept networking invitations regardless of how uninviting the prospect of attending might seem.

Restore your confidence in this volatile business world by creating a sense of camaraderie.

Retrain your brain by learning outside your area of expertise.

Succeed despite fierce competition by targeting your dream job.

Once again the WOW steering committee has planned a day that will inspire and entertain you as well as give you the tools to enhance your presence in the workplace and community. Here’s why you will want to spend the day with us to laugh, learn, grow, listen, network, shop, make new friends and build your career.

Meet KJ Johansen, the Master of Ceremonies and a comedienne and host of KBJB Radio/TV.

Listen to Lesley Jane Seymour, one of the country’s top fashion editors and founder of CoveyClub.

Hear Silvia Baldini, a Cordon Blue trained chef and the first female in Connecticut to win Food Network’s Chopped.

Benefit from the wisdom of Sara Laschever, an expert and author on women’s leadership whose textbook is used in teaching at NCCC.

Learn from Sarah Calhoun, a powerful figure in rural business and A National Women in Business

Champion for the Small Business Administration.

Listen to Lisa Bresson, and author and childhood educator mentor who is also a member of the Sisters in Skydiving.

Survive and thrive just as Jamie Pleva-Nickerson has proven through the Young Survival Coalition dedicated to helping women with breast cancer.

Throughout the day, we encourage you to pamper,

splurge and indulge yourself by checking the enticing Silent Auction items for viewing and bidding. Please go to: www.wowforum.org or call us for more details. You too can benefit from the WOW! Factor and guarantee your edge in today’s business world.
