Eagle Scout project provides tables for nature center
WOODBURY — Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust recently took delivery of four picnic tables from Charlie Stock of Boy Scout Troop 54 in Woodbury. The tables were constructed as part of his Eagle Scout project, and are specifically designed to accommodate wheelchairs and be easier to maneuver for those less mobile.
Stock said he chose Flanders as the recipient of his work in honor of his late aunt, who was an educator and nature lover.
It is his wish that the addition of these tables at the Flanders’ main campus will make it easier for every child and adult, no matter their physical limitations, to be able to more easily enjoy engaging in programs and activities at the center.
He credits family and friends for making donations toward the project; Ace Hardware of Woodbury and Chapman Lumber of Watertown, which extended discounts on the supplies he needed; and the leaders and fellow members of his troop for helping with the construction of the tables.
Along with the tables, he also presented Flanders with a check support their mission as a regional leader in land conservation and preservation and to provide environmental education for all ages.
Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust acquires, preserves and manages land; and uses the land to promote understanding and appreciation of nature, art and the environment. Founded by artist, farmer and environmentalist Natalie Van Vleck, Flanders provides a variety of environmental education programs yearround, designed to bring a deeper understanding of art, nature and farming to children, youth and adults in the Woodbury region and throughout Connecticut.
