City infrastructure grant announced
TORRINGTON — The city is expected to receive a $375,871 grant to strengthen its transportation infrastructure, according to a statement from state Rep. Michelle Cook, DTorrington.
“Investing in our transportation infrastructure is crucial to improving accessibility to our neighborhoods for our residents,” Cook said in the statement. “A strong transportation infrastructure will facilitate better livelihood and safety standards for the community.”
The grant of $375, 871 will be used to create bicycle and pedestrian improvements in municipal parking areas, including four parking lots and surrounding areas, and bike parking on City Hall Avenue, Litchfield Street/Route 202, 100 Franklin St., and along with Mason Street.
Gov. Dannel Malloy made the announcement Friday as part of the Community Connectivity Grant Program, which is administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
The grants are intended to improve safety conditions for bikers, drivers, and pedestrians to promote healthy and safe modes of travel.
“I would like to thank the State Bond Commission and Governor Malloy for investing in our community,” Cook said.
