New optometrist joins practice
Zebrowski is 3rd doc at Blondin Shea Eye Care
TORRINGTON — After expanding its services to include a new office in Kent last year, Blondin Shea Eye Care also welcomed a third optometrist, Dr. Jessica Zebrowski.
On a busy Wednesday afternoon, Zebrowski and Dr. Matthew Blondin were in and out of examining rooms, serving a constant flow of visitors of all ages at the Prospect Street office in Torrington. Zebrowski, 27, hurried to the copy machine to prepare records, then headed into one of the practice’s many adjacent rooms to greet a patient.
“It’s busy, and I like it that way,” Zebrowski said. “When I interviewed with (Dr.) Mike (Shea), the first time I was here, there were Easter decorations everywhere; I really liked how they made it fun for people when they came in. It was crazy busy and fun. It’s a small, family practice. It’s more personal.”
Zebrowski, a Thomaston native, joined Blondin Shea Eye Care in late 2017, almost immediately after graduating from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., in 2013, and did internships at Boston Medical Center; New England Eye Institute; Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia; South End Health Center in Massachusetts; and at the Newington VA.
Her parents, Chester and Miroslawa Zebrowski, brought their family of a daughter and four sons to Thomaston after living in Fairfield County, and the young girl grew up thinking she’d be a veterinarian, and later considered a career in medicine.
But that changed after an internship experience. “I shadowed an optometrist when I was in college, and I really liked it,” she said. “I knew it was for me.”
As far as Blondin knows, Zebrowski is the only female eye doctor working in Torrington. Since she arrived, the practice has grown, which the new doctor finds exciting. She spends two days per week at the Kent office and the rest of her time in Torrington. The Torrington office is shared by Blondin’s wife, atttorney Audrey Blondin, and their daughter, attorney Rose Blondin Shea.
Zebrowski knows she made the right career choice and enjoys the variety of patients for whom she cares . Careers in optometry, she said, also include community health centers, hospitals and sports medicine, but working in a bustling office like this one is what she always wanted.
“It’s pretty busy here every day,” Matthew Blondin said. “Jessica is doing great.”
“I feel like we’ve definitely grown since I got here,” Zebrowski said. “Opening the Kent office was a big change, and people really like going to Kent for their appointments.”
