CHESS CLUB: The Litchfield County Chess Club meets Thursdays at the Torrington Library, 12 Daycoeton Place, Torrington, from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursdays. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VIGIL: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Susan B. Anthony Project will be holding its 30th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Coe Memorial Park in Torrington. The vigil raises awareness of domestic violence, honors survivors and remembers those who have lost their lives. The vigil also provides an opportunity to give a voice to survivors and their families during its “Speak Out” portion.

HALLOWEEN PARTY: A Halloween Party featuring a haunted hallway, games, prizes, costume contest, food and Fun for all ages will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 3-7 p.m. at St. Peter/St. Francis School, 360 Prospect St. Torrington. $5 per family door charge and pay to play. PAINTING MAIN STREET: Friends of Main Street invites all Winsted children in grades K-6 to show their artistic abilities by teaming up with a friend to paint one of the windows along and around Main Street with a Halloween theme, Saturday, Oct. 27, 9-11 a.m. Paint is provided; bring your own brush and cleanup supplies. WINSTED TRUNK OR TREAT: Trunk or Treat with the Winsted Recreation Department will be held Oct. 27. Pre-registered volunteers will be handing out candy from the trunk of their cars to Winsted ghosts and goblins from 4:30 to 6 p.m. There will also be a bounce house and arts and crafts. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Costume judging contest will take place inside the playground building Sponsored by Winsted Recreation Dept. and BASE Winsted Area Child Care. LAWYER PROGRAM: The Winsted Community Bookstore, 414 Main Street, Winsted, will host a talk by Community Lawyer Charlene LaVoie, who will lead a discussion of America, Democracy & You by Ronald Fraser, Ph.D. Join her to talk about the reasons we feel politically powerless in our self-rule democracy and how citizens can trade-in their mythical popular sovereignty for real political self-rule. TORRINGTON TRUNK OR TREAT: The City of Torrington Parks & Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Torrington Lions Club, Torrington Municipal & Teachers Federal Credit Union, and Doyle’s Medical Supply will host a Trunk or Treat event, Oct. 27, 4-6 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Torrington Armory located at 153 South Main St. Those decorating their cars and giving out candy must register with Parks & Recreation and arrive by 2:30 p.m. You must provide your own candy. Children under 15 are welcome; wear costumes. Halloween themed bounces houses, photo booth, hayrides, stilt-walker, juggler, open suitcase circus station, DJ with music provided. Rain date is Oct. 28.
