2 plead guilty in manufacture of machine guns
Two men have pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to charges related to the illegal manufacturing and possession of machine guns.
John H. Durham, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, said George Jaiman, 69, of Bridgeport, and Sea Dey, 39, of Torrington, will be sentenced in January.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Dey made and manufactured machine guns, including AK-47style and AR-style machine guns, suppressors, and other firearms between July 2017 and April 2018.
Dey was arrested on April 11; Jaiman was arrested June 4.
According to police, Dey entered into an agreement with
Jaiman to sell machine guns, suppressors and firearms to third parties for profit.
Neither Dey nor Jaiman possessed a valid license to deal firearms, Durham said in a release.
According to the investigation, on March 28, in Bridgeport, Jaiman possessed an AK-47 style machine gun and an AR-style machine gun bearing a suppressor, neither of which
had a serial number.
On April 3, Dey transferred an AR-style machine gun that he had manufactured to another individual for cash.
Dey pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of conspiracy to engage unlawfully in the business of selling firearms, which carries a maximum of five years in prison, and one count of unlawful possession and transfer of a machine
gun, which carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.
On Friday Jaiman pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a machine gun, which carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Dey and Jaiman are scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson on Jan. 15. Both defendants are released on bonds pending sentencing.
