Land Trust opens trails

- BETHLEHEM LAND TRUST

BETHLEHEM — The Bethlehem Land Trust has announced the opening of hiking trails on its 31-acre Canfield Preserve property off Still Hill in Bethlehem.

Jakob Kelsey and fellow members of Bethlehem’s Boy Scout Troop 59 planned and cut the trails this summer as a part of Jakob’s Eagle Scout project.

The trails originate at the bottom of Still Hill, with parking and signs clearly visible near the crossing of Wood Creek, and include views of beautiful Wood Creek and the surrounding forest.

After crossing a wet drainage ditch near the road, the trails, marked with a blue blaze, run south along the Creek. The grade is moderate and appropriate for all ages and abilities.

A loop at the Southern boundary of the property extends uphill to the north and contains some steeper sections. A walking stick and hiking boots are recommended for this area.

It should be noted that Still Hill is a dirt road with seasonal access. It is typically closed in the late fall, winter and early spring.

The Land Trust would like to thank Kelsey, his fellow Scouts and the adult leaders who assisted in this project for their efforts and dedication.

Additionally, the Land Trust congratulates Kelsey on his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout.

Bethlehem Land Trust, a nonprofit organization, will hold its annual fundraiser on Sept. 29, 2019.
