RMNE to salute veterans Nov. 11

- RAILROAD MUSEUM OF NEW ENGLAND

THOMASTON — All veterans and their families are invited to attend the fourth annual “Salute to Veterans” on Sunday, Nov.11 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Thomaston Railroad Station, at 242 East Main Street in Thomaston.

The Railroad Museum of New England is partnering with the Thomaston’s American Legion Post 22 and the Thomaston Savings Bank. In addition to a ceremony of appreciation, coffee and breakfast will be served.

Jason Meehan, Post 22 Commander of Thomaston’s American Legion, and other Post officials will lead the program to commemorate veterans of all wars. Meehan planned the event with Steve Casey, President of the RMNE, and Kim Curry, Thomaston Savings Bank Branch Manager.

“We are extremely pleased with the community support we get every year for this worthwhile event,” Casey stated. “We try to thank veterans every day for their sacrifices, so it’s great to be part of a team to do something special to recognize them. This year’s Veterans Day is especially important because it is the 100th anniversary of the signing the armistice of that ended World War I.”

The RMNE, at the historic Thomaston Train Station, is a not-for-profit, all volunteer, educational and historical organization that dates to January 1968. The mission of the RMNE is to tell the story of the region’s rich railroad heritage through educational exhibits and the operation of the Naugatuck Railroad.
