Society, LWV to host ‘Nation of Immigrants’

-

LITCHFIELD — The League of Women Voters of Litchfield County will co-sponsor a talk with the Litchfield Historical Society, “Nation of Immigrants” featuring Kevin Jennings, president of the Tenement Museum in New York City . The event will be held at the Historical Society, 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7 South Street in Litchfield.

Jennings will offer a view of both the history and current trends in immigration to the United States. This very timely topic is at the center of many of our political conversations and a centerpiece of many of the issues that affect our country. In previous talks, Jennings has stressed the importance of putting a human face on the immigrant experience and rejecting bigotry.

Holding degrees from Harvard, Columbia and NYU, Jennings began his career as a high school teacher, later served as Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education in the Obama administration and from 2012 to 2017 he was the Executive Director of the Arcus Foundation, a leading international funder of human rights. He is now the President of the Tenement Museum in New York City, a premier cultural institution, dedicated to telling the uniquely American stories of migrants, immigrants and refugees in the ongoing creation of our nation. He has also published seven books.

This event is free and open to the public. For information, or to RSVP - 860-567-4501, or. MOlver@litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org.

The League of Women Voters of Litchfield County is a grassroots, nonpartisan political organization of women and men.
