The leader of truth

-

There is a Latin phrase that states, “esse quam videri,” which translates into “to be rather than to seem to be.”

This weekend is the final Sunday of the Church Year. As we begin Advent next Sunday, we are asked to stop and give full honor to Jesus Christ, as King of the Universe. We are prompted to ask ourselves: Is Jesus really king of our minds, hearts, and actions? Does His example and word truly rule or guide us? Is He truly our king, even on a Sunday, when we stop and give Him some time of worship or love, if even that much!

The pressures of this life sometimes tend to lead us to walk a mediocre or lazy way, and wait until tomorrow to follow Jesus. The point of daily prayer and turning to the Lord is to get his help in making the right choices, so we are who we want to be.

We are all tired of ourselves and others who try to be something they are not. If we dare to say and pray that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Then, even if we fail to follow him, He is always there with mercy to forgive and help us try again to get on the Way of Truth. He wants us to Be and not Seem to be imitators of Himself.

In his conversation with Pilate, Jesus takes an opportunity to speak openly and honestly about the Kingdom he ruled based on truth. Jesus states clearly that the reason He came into the world was to give witness to the truth. He was not a king in fur-trimmed velvet or holding a scepter; nor a tyrant or manipulator of others with crowns and great ceremonies. He was called to be the Son of God and Son of Man.

Perhaps the hardest symbol for Christ is not his sitting on a throne, but his daily hanging on the cross as the Leader of Truth and Love. It is much easier for us to think of a king on a throne rather than a ding on a cross!

Jesus is the one who always reaches out and acts with love, forgiveness and care as he reaches out to all from the cross.

During this final week of autumn, we might think of something so simple as ourselves called corn. Here are some facts known about corn. As you live your simple life, you might imitate corn. One, an ear of corn has how many kernels, 800. Can you do 800 good acts this week? Two, Corn has an even number of rows, usually 16. Pick 16 people to forgive this week. Three, Corn is a grain not a vegetable. And last did you know, if you do not add salt to the boiling water, your kernels will toughen, and your corn kernels will not be as good.

Take time for quiet prayer, the salt of daily life to truly make life worth living.
