THINGS TO WATCH

1. Unwanted history: UConn needs a victory to avoid going winless in conference play for the first time since losing all four Yankee Conference games in 1954. UConn’s defense could give up the most points, yards, rushing yards, yards per play and lowest pass efficiency marks in major-college football history. If there is a silver lining, it could be the experience the true freshmen have received this season. A total of 14 true freshmen defensive players (and one offensive player) have tackles this season, which is four more than any other FBS program. UConn has the most tackles from true freshmen and all freshmen of any FBS team. Oneil Robinson, Kevon Jones and Travis Jones have the most tackles by true freshmen since UConn became a full-fledged FBS program. If Robinson records five tackles, he will break Terrance Smith’s true freshman tackles record that was set in 2000. 2. Swan song: Team success has been hard to come by as UConn’s 35 losses are the most in a four-year stretch in program history. There have been some individual standouts among the Huskies wrapping up their collegiate careers on Saturday. Quarterback David Pindell’s name will be all over the UConn record book, receiver Hergy Mayala is 15th at UConn with 110 career catches and 22nd with 1,320 receiving yards. Mayala, Aaron McLean, Kyle Buss and Tyraiq Beals have combined for more than 100 catches in the last two seasons. The last time that happened at UConn came during Geremy Davis’ sophomore and junior campaigns. Center Ryan Crozier has been a mainstay in the middle of the line helping the Huskies post the No. 5 and 6 single-game total offense marks in program history. Santana Sterling is second on the Huskies with 72 tackles and will be the defensive team captain on Saturday. Reserve linemen James Atkins and Carlton Steer have combined for 25 tackles this season. Ten players who were eligible to return are also moving on including kicker Michael Tarbutt, defensive linemen Kevin Murphy, Philippe Okounam and Connor Freeborn, tight end Zordan Holman and Connecticut natives Brandon Bisack, Bryan Cespedes, Harrison Newman and Jeff Woodcock as well as offensive lineman Ian Campbell.

3. Welcome back: Two Connecticut natives will be in the spotlight for visiting Temple. Former Wilbur Cross star Jaelin Robinson has started at three different spots on the offensive line as a senior. He will be one of Temple’s four captains on Saturday. Junior receiver Isaiah Wright is second among FBS players with 856 yards on kickoff and punt returns. The Kingswood Oxford graduate also has 33 receptions and 18 rushing attempts.
