-

TORRINGTON — All are welcome to attend the Artwell reunion hosted by Five Points gallery, 33 Main Street, Torrington, on Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

Storytelling, music and poetry will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a featured performance by Kath Bloom. This is a free event.

“For nearly 20 years, Artwell Gallery, a not-for-profit, volunteer-run, community arts organization, showed indomitable spirit and open heartedness, while serving as a cultural and social hub to many of the talented artists living in Northwest Connecticut and beyond,” said event organizer and Artwell member Stewart Wilson. “Founded in 1995 with a mission of Art for All, Artwell offered hundreds of exhibitions, performances, workshops and an eclectic range of creative events that boggles the mind.”

Performances at Artwell ranged from readings and workshops by two of Connecticut's poet laureates, local and nationally recognized folk singers, ‘Extremely Off-Broadway’ NYC theater and dance performances, classical concerts as well as the best of regional poets, musicians and comedians. Artwell's Annual Floating Art Regattas brought festivities to the Naugatuck River every year. There were open mics night, art classes for adults and children as well as puppet shows and puppet exhibitions.

One noteworthy exhibit was its “Show for a Show” where hundreds of artists received exhibition opportunities from dozens of galleries and museums from the tri-state area. Annual juried exhibitions gave out thousands of dollars in prizes and included distinguished art curators from Pace Prints of NYC, the Wadsworth Atheneum, New Britain Museum, Aldrich Museum, Real Artways, University of Hartford Art School and many others, Wilson said.
