Stage, dance companies debut shows
TORRINGTON — The Warner Theatre has announced new shows for 2019. Tickets are available and may be reserved at warnertheatre.org, or by calling the box office at 860-489-7180.
“A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder”
The Warner Stage Company will present “A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder” on the Main Stage Feb. 2-10. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is the knock-'emdead, uproarious hit and the most-nominated show of the 2014 season. With 10 Tony nominations and four wins, including best musical, book, direction and costumes, it also earned seven Drama Desk Awards (including best musical), four Outer Critics Circle Awards (including best musical) and one Drama League Award (best musical).
When the low-born Monty Navarro finds out that he’s eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D'Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path. Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught and become the ninth Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Because murder isn’t the only thing on Monty's mind.
Performances are Feb. 2, 8-9 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 3 and 10 at 2 p.m. The show is directed and choreographed by Sharon W. Houk, with music direction by Dan Ringuette. The cast features Sarah Giggar, Joe Guttadauro, Jonathan Jacobson, Kate Lori, Keith Paul, Lana Peck, Dan Porri, Kyle Riedinger, Jonathan Ross, Jenifer Sokira, Priscilla Squiers, Jodiann Tenney
“The Vagina Monologues”
The Susan B. Anthony Project, in conjunction with LoveArtPlay, will present Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 as a special fundraiser.
An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, “The Vagina Monologues” introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a 6-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.”
Founded in 1983, the Torrington-based Susan B. Anthony Project promotes safety, healing and growth for all survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and advocates for the autonomy of women and the end of interpersonal violence.
LoveArtPlay is a nonprofit 501c3 arts organization dedicated to promoting artistic projects undertaken principally by professionals in the visual and performing arts. LoveArtPlay supports artists to step out of their safety zones to explore and collaborate with other artists to find new ways in expressing individuality and originality.
“The Vagina Monologues” is directed by Arlene Begelman and features Saun Ellis, Joanna Jung and Leland Williams.
