Gunn library announces January movie matinees

Gunn Memorial Library in Washington announces its January Monday Movie Matinees, free of charge, held on Mondays at 1 p.m.

Jan. 7: Lizzie: The Legend of Lizzie Borden. Academy Award (R) nominee Chloë Sevigny stars as Lizzie Borden, the notorious woman at the heart of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history. After a lifetime of loneliness, Lizzie finds a kindred spirit in housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) and their secret intimacy sparks an unthinkabl­e act. Director Craig William Macneill explores the days leading up to the savage crimes in a dark tale of repression, exploitati­on and thwarted dreams. R.

Jan. 14: A Simple Favor. A stylish post-modern film noir directed by Paul Feig, centers around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy blogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily's (Blake Lively) sudden disappeara­nce from their small town. Stephanie is joined by Emily's husband Sean (Henry Golding) in this thriller filled with twists and betrayals, secrets and revelation­s, love and loyalty, murder and revenge. R.

Jan. 21: The library is closed in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Jan. 28: Old Man & The Gun. Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unpreceden­ted string of heists that confounded authoritie­s and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest's commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession. PG13.
