What to expect
Artillery salutes, a parade and the start of the 2019 legislative session will mark Inauguration Day on Wednesday, when Edward Miner Lamont Jr. becomes Connecticut’s 89th governor.
The early afternoon swearing-in ceremony will be in the State Armory.
Located next to the Legislative Office Building at 360 Broad St., the Armory event will precede a parade around the Capitol to its north steps. Doors will open at the Armory around 11:30 a.m. in advance of the 12:30 p.m. event, which is free and open to the public.
Here is a breakdown of the day’s planned events:
State Senate Chamber, 10 a.m. — Susan Byiewicz takes the oath of lieutenant governor, followed by swearing-in of senators.
House Chamber, 10 a.m. — The House of Representatives convenes, swears in members.
11:30 a.m. — Armory doors open, followed by the 12:30 p.m. inauguration ceremony and oath of office for Gov. Ned Lamont, Attorney General William Tong, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, Comptroller Kevin Lembo and Treasurer Shawn Wooden.
2:30 p.m. — Lamont delivers a State of the State address to a joint session of the General Assembly in the historic House Chamber.
7 p.m. — The $200-ahead Inaugural Ball begins in the Connecticut Convention Center.
