“She posted so that everyone would know why there were no lights (in the park).”

A Facebook post on the town of Winsted’s page Monday let people know that lights in the shape of a tree had been vandalized and stolen.

It actually happened about a month ago, according to Mayor Candy Perez.

The post was made by Board of Selectmen member Candace Bouchard, Perez said.

The recreation department and the Friends of Main Street, of which Bouchard is also a member, collaborate to decorate the park and Main Street during the holidays.

“East End Park’s smaller Christmas tree had the top broken off last year, so what they do when they decorate is take strings of lights and make them look like a tree,” Perez said.

“I guess someone came along and cut the cords of the light strings. That happened about a month ago.”

Bouchard posted the announcement, which reads “Recreation Department Christmas Tree (lights) in East End Park vandalized, destroyed and removed.”

“She just didn’t want anyone to think that the department or the Friends took the lights down,” Perez said.

“They were vandalized. She posted so that everyone would know why there were no lights (in the park).”
