Miner named ranking Republican on committees
LITCHFIELD — State Senator Craig Miner, R-30th, was chosen by Senate Republican leader Len Fasano to be the Ranking Member of the Environment and Labor Committees, according to a statement. Miner will also serve as a co-Chair of the Regulation Review Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee.
The Environment Committee oversees environmental regulations and oversight of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Department of Agriculture.
“Miner has extensive experience in crafting environmental policy, and has always worked to craft sustainable policy for the state’s natural resources,” officials wrote in the statement.
The Labor Committee oversees the Department of Labor, and crafts labor laws for the state. Miner has served on this committee in the past.
The Regulations Review Committee has equal bipartisan membership and approves the regulations which come from the state agencies.
The Appropriations Committee formulates the spending portion of the state budget. Miner previously served as vice-chairman of the committee.
“I want to thank Senator Fasano for entrusting me as the leading Republican voice on important committees,” Miner said in a statement. “We have important work ahead of us, especially with large deficits looming. I look forward to working collaboratively to craft policy and find solutions to the problems facing our state. I will be particularly focused on making sure the rural communities in my district are not treated unfairly in the budget process.”
Along with his committee responsibilities, Miner will serve as Deputy Senate Republican Leader and Screening Chairman, leading the bill screening process for the caucus.
