Nominations sought for alumnus award
TORRINGTON — Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Torrington High School Distinguished Alumnus Award.
The Torrington High School Distinguished Alumnus Award acknowledges and honors a THS graduate who exhibits integrity in their adult life and has made significant contributions to their community, state or nation through educational achievements, professional practice, or public service.
To be eligible, the nominee must have graduated from THS at least 10 years ago.
Nominee may not be a current employee of the Torrington Board of Education. Nominee also may not be a Torrington elected/appointed official who is directly or indirectly involved in the selection process.
Nominee must be able to be present to receive the award at the THS Scholarship Awards Ceremony in June.
Nomination forms must be completed and submitted to the Superintendent’s Office by March 15, 2019. Late submissions will not be considered for this year but will be put in the file for review next year. Nomination forms may be submitted via email to lsolianicroci@torrington.org or by mail to Torrington Board of Education, Attention: Superintendent's Office, 355 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, CT 06790.
The Board of Education’s School Improvement and Community Relations Committee will review and select a recipient. The recipient will be contacted by May 1st of the award year.
The award will be given at the THS Scholarship Awards Night at the end of May or early June.
Nominations that are not awarded will remain under consideration for the next 3 award cycles following their submission.
Forms can be downloaded online at torrington.org and choosing the schools tab. competitive General Grant Cycle. Funding consideration will be given to, but not limited to, proposals requesting support for charitable projects in the areas of education, health, human services, sports field maintenance, animal welfare, environment and arts and culture. All proposals for the General Grant Cycle are due March 29.
Eligibility criteria and the link to the online applications for the General Grant Cycle is posted on the Foundation’s website. Interested organizations are required to contact Kate Kerchaert, Director of Grants & Programs, at 860-5836363 to discuss the proposal before submitting an application.
The foundation is also awarding scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year. Scholarship applications are now available to area students for 75 scholarship opportunities. These scholarship funds target many diverse areas of study and are available to students at various points in their educational careers. The 2019 Scholarship Directory, which lists all scholarships and eligibility criteria, and the link to the Foundation’s online application are available on the Foundation’s website. The deadline for all scholarships is March 15, 2019.
