TORRINGTON — “Come and See, Come and Hear,” a concert featuring violinist Daniel S. The free concert will be held at the gallery, 33 Main St., Torrington, on March 16 at 4 p.m.
This will be a rare opportunity to see and hear two stringed instruments that are not well known to the general public – the violino piccolo and the violoncello da spalla. Music composed for them will come to life in the gifted hands of Lee, who enjoys a varied career as a soloist, conductor, collaborator and educator.
The violino piccolo was widely used from the late 16th century to the 18th century. It was constructed to perform higher-pitched violin pieces and is smaller than the standard violin.

In addition to his mastery as a performer, Lee will also employ his experience as an educator, interspersing his program with lively commentary about the two instruments.
He has presented lectures and master classes at institutions such as Connecticut College, Purchase College (SUNY), University of Kansas and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is currently a faculty member at the Yale School of Music.
Concertgoers will also have the opportunity to view the gallery’s current exhibits, featuring works of art by Susan Farrari Rowley, Elaine King, Barbara Solomon, Gerald Wolf, Cynthia Cooper, Will Holub and Matthew Best.
