The skinny on Hall of Famer and UConn icon Ray Allen

- — Paul Doyle

Fifteen players wore the number before him, including Brian Fair and Randy LaVigne. Four have worn it since: Souleymane Wane, Hasheem Thabeet, Alex Oriakhi, and David Onuorah.

But no one will wear No. 34 again for the UConn Huskies, The number will be retired Sunday, when UConn honors Ray Allen — not only the greatest to wear No 34, but one of the great athletes to ever pass through Storrs.

Allen never won a national title with UConn, but he was an elite player who built a Hall of Fame career in the NBA. He may be the most important player in program history, providing UConn was a bona fide NBA star as Jim Calhoun & Co. built a power and attracted recruits who wanted to be like Ray.

What should we know about Allen as he receives the ultimate honor from his alma mater?
