ALBANY, N.Y. — Quinnipiac’s Cameron Young earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year and led a parade of Quinnipiac winners during Friday morning’s awards ceremony.

Young scored in double digits in each of his last 24 games, including a MAAC record 55 points in a tripleovertime victory at Siena. A late November game at UMass was the only game when Young failed to score at least 10 points this season. He also had 25 games with at least two 3-pointers as he set a Quinnipiac Division I single-season record with 638 points and 93 3pointers.

“It is something that I set a goal for myself. It means a lot to have gone out and played well enough to win this award,” Young said.

Young and the Bobcats earned the No. 3 seed and will face Monmouth in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Times Union Center.

“Third place is OK, but we wanted to do better so we will use it as motivation to go out and win some games,” Young said.

Quinnipiac’s Tricia Fabbri was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in the last five years.

Fabbri led the Bobcats to another perfect run through the MAAC and Quinnipiac is one of seven Division I women’s teams to go undefeated in conference play during the regular season. The Bobcats earned their 50th straight MAAC victory with a quarterfinal win over Fairfield on Friday.

“It is an incredible accomplishment to do what they have done,” Fabbri said. “They are just motivated girls, an energetic group that really wants to achieve and do the best for each other.”

Quinnipiac’s Taylor Herd was named the women’s Sixth Player of the Year after averaging 8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 23 minutes per game. She started nine games during the season but normally was the first player off the bench.

“It means a lot,” Herd said. “It is definitely a validation that I do my role, I come in as the sixth player and try to provide a spark.”

Fairfield’s Jonathan Kasibabu was named the men’s defensive player of the year after leading the Stags with 24 blocked shots and 230 rebounds per game.
